Recent advances in the identification and isolation of intestinal epithelial stem cells has fueled an interest in ex vivo expansion of intestinal epithelial tissues as cell-based therapeutics for a variety of disorders.
The Magness Lab is using novel culturing strategies, combinded with micro-fabricated biocompatible scaffolds to develop ex vivo models of tissue expansion for both mouse and human intestinal epithelial stem cells and supporting mesenchyme.
